Steps To Take When Boarding Your Dog

If you are thinking about putting your dog in boarding for a while, you may wonder what you can or should do to ensure that your dog has the best possible experience when they are in dog boarding. Find out about some of the steps you can and should take when you are planning to take your dog to a boarding facility. Then, you can be sure you are as prepared as possible for boarding your dog before you need to drop them off.

Be Sure You Tour a Few Boarding Facilities Before You Book

One of the steps that you will want to take when you are planning on boarding your dog is to tour a few boarding facilities before you book your dog's stay. When you tour the facilities, pay attention to the cleanliness of the facility. You should also look at the size of the accommodations for the dogs in the facility.

Additionally, it is important to pay attention to the attitudes of the other dogs being boarded. If they seem happy and comfortable, you likely have a good dog boarding facility on your hands. If dogs cower and look uncomfortable or unhappy when people go by, you should probably avoid that facility.

Choose the boarding facility with the most spacious accommodations, the cleanest facility, and the dogs that look as happy as possible, and you will be sure that your dog has as positive an experience as possible in boarding.

Decide on Amenities

There are also often amenities that you can choose from when you send your dog to boarding. For example, some boarding facilities will offer packages with dog massages, extra walks, playgroups, and extra special treats. You can opt for all or none of the extra amenities, but if you want your dog to have the best experience possible, you will probably want to add on some services.

Find Out What You Need to Bring for Your Dog

Many boarding facilities will provide all or most of what your dog needs to be comfortable and safe in boarding. However, it is often recommended that you bring some things with your dog. For example, they often recommend you bring your own dog food so your dog does not have to switch to another brand of food while they are in boarding (as this can upset their stomach).

Your dog's boarding facility may also recommend that you send a dog bed or blanket with them, or some toys or other comfort items to have in their kennel or suite with them. Sending treats with your dog may also be a good idea so they can have little snacks throughout the day.

Now that you know some of the steps you should take when you are thinking about boarding your dog, you can be sure you are doing everything you can to get ready for your dog's time in boarding.

About Me

Vets Show Compassion and Offer Great Care Did you know that in order to become a veterinarian, a person needs to earn a four-year degree, and then spend an additional four years in veterinary school? By the time they are finished with all of this education, they are well prepared to offer your animals the best care. You can count on vets to treat your pets with kindness and compassion. They'll provide preventative care like vaccines, make recommendations for food and other products to keep your pet in good health, and offer treatment when your pet becomes ill. We are thankful for the work of vets, and we discuss that work in more depth throughout this blog.
